Summary: The Chemist oversees feed analysis lab and performs chemical evaluations of feed, ingredients, and water.              

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Oversees feed analysis lab.
• Assists in research trials.
• Understands NIR instrument and software.
• Operates ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) machine for feed analysis.
• Prepares samples for assay.
• Monitors feed and ingredient analysis.
• Sends samples to outside labs as scheduled.
• Has a working knowledge of FMLA (Feed Mill Lab Analysis) database.
• Understands and adheres to the Bachoco USA animal welfare policy.
• Understands and adheres to the Bachoco USA biosecurity program.
• This is a safety sensitive position.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises one employee in the Technical Services Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software, Internet software, Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software, NIR software, and ICP software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to qualify for the company's driver program.
