Summary: Responsible for the overall management and administration of the Company's Environmental Compliance Program across all operations. Provides corporate leadership and subject matter expertise for environmental compliance, wastewater compliance, permitting, and regulatory affairs. Evaluates environmental and regulatory risks, develops compliance strategies, supports operational leadership in maintaining regulatory compliance, and serves as the primary corporate liaison with regulatory agencies. This position ensures the Company maintains compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations while supporting operational excellence and sustainable business practices.                                

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide overall leadership and oversight of the Company's environmental compliance programs across all operations.
  • Serve as the Company's subject matter expert for environmental compliance, wastewater compliance, and permitting.
  • Arrange for and ensure the accurate collection, compilation, and submission of all environmental regulatory reports, including Tier II, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), and other required federal, state, and local submissions.
  • Monitor and support process owners to ensure environmental compliance procedures are implemented, maintained, and effective. Example data: chemicals, exhaust systems, emissions, waste characteristics, etc.
  • Provide technical guidance to facility personnel on wastewater compliance, permit requirements, sampling programs, reporting obligations, corrective actions, and regulatory interpretations.
  • Identify hazards and analyze environmental risks associated with Company operations and assist in developing programs to reduce risk and improve compliance performance.
  • Conduct periodic environmental compliance assessments across Company facilities and provide summary reports and recommendations to Executive Leadership.
  • Assist in the review and interpretation of regulations impacting the site and propose options that will assist with the creation and implementation of compliant processes and procedures.
  • Partner with operational leadership to investigate environmental incidents, audit findings, permit exceedances, and regulatory concerns while developing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver environmental compliance training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Participate in external government agency audits and follow up on concerns identified during audits.
  • Support emergency response activities and be available to provide environmental and regulatory guidance during emergencies. Expected to be available for emergencies 24/7.
  • Periodically report environmental compliance performance, wastewater compliance trends, regulatory developments, and organizational risks to Operations and Executive Leadership.
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements including AR, OK, AL and GA waste regulations, permitting, NPDES, SID, SPCC, SWPPP, Hazardous & Solid Waste, Air, EPCRA – Tier II and TRI.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.

 

Education and/or Experience                                                      

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related technical field required.
  • Five (5) or more years of environmental compliance experience, preferably in poultry, food processing, manufacturing, agriculture, or a similarly regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance programs, including air, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous and solid waste, EPCRA Tier II, and TRI reporting.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and permitting requirements in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Georgia preferred.
  • Lean and continuous improvement experience preferred

 

Supervisory Responsibilities                                                      

 

Serves as the functional leader for environmental and wastewater compliance across all Company operations. Maintains a dotted-line relationship with facility EHS and wastewater personnel regarding environmental compliance matters. Provides direction, guidance, and technical support to ensure consistent implementation of environmental programs, regulatory requirements, reporting obligations, permitting activities, and compliance initiatives.

 

Works collaboratively with facility and operational leadership to monitor compliance performance, support environmental objectives, and drive continuous improvement. This position has no direct reports.

Mathematical Skills                                                     

 

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Strong analytical ability, being able to look at data/trends and create and implement appropriate process improvements.

 

Reasoning Ability                                             

 

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer Skills                                               

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Environmental Management systems, Excel and other Microsoft programs. Along with familiarity of regulatory based systems for reporting requirements.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

 

Registered Environmental Manager license issued by National Registry of Environmental Professionals or other professional certifications preferred. Other designations and/or organizations would be considered.
